Mathematics Curriculum in G&T Classes
Our policy and practices of providing our students with the engaging and rigorous curriculum continues to be goal and aim. We are refining our focus to ensure our students learn with deep understanding so that they not only master the content standards in mathematics, they do so with a level of mathematical practices that promote fluency for conceptual understanding. Our learning plans for our students will be constructed based on the vertical and horizontal articulation with our colleagues and strong standards-based assessments in pre/post units of studies to support the individual needs of our students.
We always begin with grade level beginning of the year/unit assessments. This is to ensure that your child have not only been introduced the standards but that they have mastered it with deep understanding. Your child will receive challenging and engaging standards based instruction that includes enrichment and/or acceleration opportunities that will be dependent on the individual needs of your child.
At P.S. 33, we use EngageNY as our primary math curriculum. Please take a look at the following parent newsletters to better understand the expectations for students on each grade level.
